Fluorescent painting in Barcelona — a combination that's already synonymous with creativity, colour and unique experiences. If you've seen artworks that glow under black light or walls that light up in vibrant shades, you've probably come across UV paint, also known as fluorescent paint.
In this article, we explain what it is, how it works and why it has become one of the most eye-catching trends in contemporary art and decor.

What is UV paint?

UV or fluorescent paint is a type of paint that reacts to ultraviolet light (also called black light). When UV light hits it, the special pigments it contains absorb the radiation and re-emit it as visible light, creating that neon glow that seems to come from the object itself.

The curious thing is that, under normal light, many of these paints can look soft or even understated, but when you switch on the UV light… everything comes to life!
The result is an immersive visual experience, ideal for contemporary art as well as events, creative spaces and hands-on workshops like the ones at Paint Barcelona.

How does fluorescent paint work?

Its magic lies in fluorescence.
Fluorescent pigments can transform invisible (ultraviolet) radiation into visible light. In other words, they turn something the human eye can't see into a spectacle of colour.

In UV painting workshops in Barcelona, like the ones at Paint Barcelona, we use non-toxic acrylic paints specially formulated to work on different surfaces: canvas, ceramics and even fans.
You can also layer or mix colours to create gradient effects, intense highlights or hypnotic contrasts.
